Key Details

How will it work?

Each morning we will be dropped off by

mini-bus and go on a linear walk where we

will walk a short distance and then spend

time sketching, arriving at a village pub or

cafe in time for lunch where we can do more sketching.

We will then continue on route sketching and walking and will be picked up by mini-bus at our destination.

Walks will be predominantly downhill, with some ups and downs. They will be more of a stroll than a route march and each section will be around a mile and we will cover around 3-4 miles by the end of the day, so it is only suitable for those with good mobility.

Non-sketching partners can come on the stroll or go on a more strenuous route as they wish.

Sketch-books will be provided but you need to bring and carry all your own equipment so only bring limited equipment and travel sets on the walk.

However, some studio work may be included so please bring all your normal equipment with you on the holiday, a list will be provided nearer the time.

About Your Tutor

About Your Tutor

Barry is your ideal tutor for this exciting opportunity as his main emphasis is more on quick, spontaneous, vibrant sketches where you are able to soak up the atmosphere of the place.

He will paint scenes in manageable “bite sized chunks”, so you can paint along with him on a step-by-step basis, if you wish. This will enable you to get the most out of his expert knowledge, the most from the scene and the most out of your paintings.

Barry will give plenty of one-to-one tuition and with his approachable light-hearted character he will help you find a method of working that suits you best.

Where will we go?

Possible routes will be from the Moors to the coastal village of Porlock Weir, along the Barle Valley and down the Lyn Valley through Watersmeet to Lynmouth.
