Cecil Rice
Cecil studied Fine Art Painting at Brighton College of Art in the eighties and
has painted professionally ever since with seascapes and landscapes being
his main preoccupation.
Watercolour was his first passion. He was given a box of artist's colours at
the age of thirteen by his father. The purity of the colours was hypnotic
and he loved the beauty that could be produced. His other passion was oil
painting with its power, richness and texture and more recently acrylic
too.
Cecil is an experienced art tutor and demonstrator and has a wealth of
knowledge on art techniques and art history. His teaching is delivered in
his inimitable engaging style and he can enable artists of all abilities to
improve their paintings.
He is fascinated with the play of light on various objects and surfaces in the landscape especially water. His paintings are
lively, colourful and full of life. He loves sharing his enthusiasm for painting with other artists. He has led regular painting
classes and workshops in the South of England and taught on residential painting holidays in the UK and abroad.
His paintings have been featured in BBC Countryfile, the Independent newspaper, Echappees Belles for French TV, The
Artist magazine. He has illustrated two books including the Colour of Light.
He has exhibited regularly at art galleries in the UK and at exhibitions in London, Battersea Art fair, the Royal Academy
and many others. He work is widely sought after and collected.
